Alignment of Interests: Key to Employee Retention

What's in the best interest of companies today? Delighted, loyal, returning customers. In order to create this phenomenon, you need employees who create memorable, efficient and enjoyable customer experiences.

Companies need employees who stay and are engaged in their work.

The latest jobs report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows the US economy added 275,000 jobs in February which is more than economists had predicted, and unemployment continues its two year stretch of being less than 4%. It's time to focus on retention!

What are today's employees interested in? Salary matters, but today's employees want more...not more work. They want more life...more time that is spent stress free and energized. Bye, Bye burnout.

This doesn't mean employers should stop having expectations and lower their standards. But it does mean redefining optimal work conditions.

Here are some options to think about:

  • Flexible schedules and remote work

  • Promote mental health and well-being

  • Provide challenge assignments for learning and growth

  • Offer and fund professional development

  • Include Individual Development Plans as part of your talent strategy

  • Conduct regular check-ins focused on work, growth, and development

  • Show appreciation - make them feel wanted instead of just needed
